Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned and accomplished Resident Engineer to lead the construction supervision and contract administration of the Lower Umkomaas Lower Bulk Water Supply Scheme (Phase 2) - A flagship project forming part of critical regional water security infrastructure. Acting as the Engineer’s on-site representative, the successful candidate will provide senior oversight of multidisciplinary construction works and ensure successful delivery in line with approved designs, programme, quality standards, health and safety requirements, and contractual obligations. A key requirement of this role is demonstrable experience in Water Treatment Works and dams engineering, including construction supervision and contract administration on complex multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the Resident Engineer on a large Water Treatment Works contract in the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast area.
- Lead and manage the Construction Supervision Team overseeing the construction of the works.
- Oversee the works and ensure full compliance with approved designs.
- Supervise the planning, coordination and implementation of the construction works.
- Manage the Contractor’s programme and budget.
- Manage a large multidisciplinary construction monitoring team.
- Control drawings and design documentation, ensuring that records remain current and accurate.
- Evaluate the construction works throughout the construction period.
- Prepare and issue payment certificates, deal with contractual claims, resolve disputes and make determinations.
- Manage health and safety on site and ensure full compliance.
- Manage quality control procedures on site, including materials and construction.
- Prepare monthly reports on programme and related site matters, including incident reporting.
- Liaise with a range of stakeholders, including the Client, the community, landowners and other entities.
- Manage Target Enterprise Contractors.
- Monitor construction progress against programme and take the necessary steps to ensure programme achievement.
- Administer the contract and manage contractual claims.
- Maintain project documentation and reporting, including daily diaries, photographic records, progress reports, incidentreports, quality records and as-built information.
- Attend and chair progress, technical and other project meetings as required.


Qualifications

- Matric / Grade 12 is essential; a relevant tertiary qualification such as BSc Eng, B Eng, or equivalent is required.

- Professional registration with ECSA and SACPCMP or similar, together with 15 years’ experience as the Resident Engineer on complex multidisciplinary engineering construction contracts.
- Alternatively, 30 years’ experience as Resident Engineer on complex multidisciplinary engineering construction
contracts.
- Experience on at least three projects exceeding R500 million in construction value.
- Proven working knowledge of the General Conditions of Contract (GCC) 2010 and 2015.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including MS Projects.
- Essential: demonstrable Water Treatment Works and dams engineering experience, including exposure to large-scale bulk water, treatment and hydraulic infrastructure.
